Southside Investment Cooperative

CANDO and former Ward 8 City Councilperson Elizabeth Glidden have organized a series of meetings to discuss the creation of a Southside Investment Cooperative (SSI Co-op). The SSI Co-op would purchase and support the development of commercial and/or residential properties in Central and surrounding neighborhoods.

At the last planning meeting, we focused on establishing priorities for the co-op and balancing growth and affordability. Top priorities that have been identified are: community control, supporting arts initiatives and creating mechanisms for broad community ownership. We will be working on securing seed funding, drafting incorporating documents and organizing presentations for community groups throughout the 2018.
