What Does CANDO Do?

The Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization (CANDO) works to support the people of the Central Neighborhood in many ways.

We fund the program, Plant-Grow-Share:

  • to provide opportunities to learn about and practice growing food

  • to develop new neighborhood leaders

  • and to bring people together to enjoy healthy, delicious food

We provide Housing and Business Loans and Grants to Central residents and business owners

We try to ensure the voices of Central neighbors are heard at the various levels of city governance. For example, in 2017 we convened several community events around the upcoming redesign of Green Central Park. As a result of this engagement, significant changes were made to the plan, including a new outdoor basketball court, a gathering space/outdoor classroom space and the integration of a skate park without sacrificing other priorities.

We support youth programming through partnerships with Agents of Change and No Lock Doors.

CANDO wants to hear from you! Visit our contact page to let us know how we can support you.
