Bikes & Botany with PLANT-GROW-SHARE | Saturday, August 23, 2-4pm

The Air Quality Index predicts tomorrow to be a safe, breathable day to come get a bike check and explore the Reading Garden at Hosmer Library! Bring bike repair questions and listening ears for some fun in the sun with Ali from 2-4pm at Hosmer Library, 347 E 36th Street.

Hide and Seek: There are veggies to eat at Hosmer Reading Garden!

Garlic Chives, Swiss Chard, Oregano, and Rhubarb are all available and ready to harvest at the Hosmer Reading Garden! Not yet quite ripe (but are still delicious and edible): Habanero, Serrano and Green Tomatoes!

Please harvest what you need! If you have any questions about how or what to harvest, contact Charly Mariamu at charls@thecentralneighborhood.com

Have you been to the Community Seed Library lately?

It’s almost seed saving time!
Do you have any seeds you are interested in sharing with the Community Seed Library this year?
We are especially excited for any native perennial seeds you may have ripening in your garden. A good rule of thumb is to wait until the seed pods are completely dry on the plant before harvesting the seeds. This increases the seed viability, meaning there will be a higher chance of the seed growing for whoever plants it next! Are you hoping to grow more native perennial plants in your garden next year? Now is a great time to prepare a space! Many native perennial seeds require cold stratification in order to grow!

What’s happening with Plant-Grow-Share this September?

Seed circles will resume on Tuesday, September 9th from 5-7pm. Join us at Hosmer Library for quality time spent with neighbors maintaining a valuable community resource.

This year we will have seed circles every 2nd Tuesday of the month September-April! Are you interested in learning more about saving your own seeds?

Join us at Hosmer Library Saturday September 20th, 1:30-3:30pm for Seed Keeping and Saving, part of our Beginning Gardeners Program. We will harvest, clean and save some seeds together from the Hosmer Reading Garden.

Join us every Wednesday from 6-8pm at Bryant Community Garden for volunteer nights in the garden!

This summer has been such a whirlwind of smokey air, extreme heat and sudden rain impacting the amount of time we have been able to spend together in the garden. Thank you for your patience with us and the weather and for continuing to show up! Despite all of the weather impacts we have accomplished so much together. We are excited to spend as much time as possible with you all in the garden for the rest of the growing season!
