From the City of MPLS - George Floyd Square: Vision Workshop

Background: Since March, we have been hosting monthly meetings to develop a vision for George Floyd Square, which will include:

  • The important racially and culturally centered values and priorities that should be the foundation for the future of George Floyd Square.

  • The criteria for the future use of the Peoples Way site and a community-centered owner.

  • The places to preserve for future memorial processes and clarify how the City can support this.

  • A concept layout for the streets and sidewalks that aligns with the future use of the Peoples Way site and accommodates memorials within the public right-of-way.

At our last event on August 27th, we had 80 attendees, and we discussed the values and priorities for the GFS Vision. These included: community safety & health, economic vitality, memorials, Peoples Way, racial healing, and street design (right-of-way).

Next Meetings: We will have two more community engagement events.

  • Vision Workshop #5: Tuesday, September 24th from 5:30-8:00 PM

    • Goal: Share draft vision for feedback (this will include an evaluation of the three concepts for the street design)

  • Dinner Dialogue: Tuesday, October 29th from 5:30-8:00 PM

    • Goal: Share final vision for feedback (this will include a final recommended concept for the street design)

  • Stay informed by signing up for project updates
